Superintendent's Message

Chowchilla Community Members,

Welcome to the 2021-22 school year and our website. My name is Justin Miller and I am the new Superintendent for Chowchilla Union High School District. I have been a resident of the community of Chowchilla for more than seven years and I am excited about the future of our district.

A top priority in our district will always be the academic growth of all students. School staff have been working diligently through the summer to prepare our schools for in-person learning so every student can achieve individual success towards college and career readiness. Another step towards this goal will be the new Careers in Criminal Justice course being offered in the Fall of 2021. This course will improve our students' ability to be career ready and grow their knowledge in the field of criminal justice.

Another top priority in our district will be the social-emotional needs of our students. We understand the pandemic has been difficult for our community, especially our young people who need peer interaction to strengthen their self-esteem, communication, and listening skills. Counselors and School Psychologists will be readily available to meet with students in-person and/or virtually. Also, all instructional staff will be trained in Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s) prior to the school year. As a school community, we will be accessible to meet the social-emotional needs of all students.

Another top priority in our district is to provide school facilities where every student is inspired and empowered in a safe, nurturing and innovative environment to follow their passions as they discover, pursue, and realize their life goals. Not to mention, a school environment the community can take pride in. During the summer of 2021, the district will demolish the annex building in front of the gymnasium. The annex building will increase parking availability in the school's parking lot and increase student and staff safety by allowing a clear line of sight to the front of the gymnasium and 8th Street. In the Summer of 2021 and into the Fall, CUHSD will install shade structures in the Mariposa Avenue parking area. These shade structures will come equipped with 1,782 solar panels to increase the district's energy efficiency and reduce energy costs by up to 70%.

In closing, I would like to thank parents, students, staff, and community members for your dedication to the educational program at Chowchilla UHSD. Every stakeholder plays a critical role in the success of our district. I look forward to an outstanding 2021-22 school year!

Justin Miller, Ed.D.
